Whilst shooting the Great Gatsby, Tobey was offered a brand new Mercedes to use while filming. His reaction? He sent it back because it had leather seats inside.

For those of you that don’t know, Tobey has been a vegetarian since 1992 and recently became a vegan in 2009. During an interview with Parade Magazine, Tobey stated:

This Oscar winning actor and frontman has appeared in several notable films including Dallas Buyers Club and Suicide Squad.

Known for gaining and losing weight for a variety of his roles, Jared has embraced the plant based diet for over a decade. He also credits his youthful appearance to his vegan diet and “lots of sleep”. In an interview with GQ Leto stated:

If you travel long haul a lot or don’t sleep much, it’s not going to last very long, that’s for sure. I’m pretty healthy so I think that helps a lot. I’ve been that way for a long time – 20 solid years of eating vegetarian/vegan and taking care of myself. That probably helps the preservation process.

Joaquin Phoenix

If you’ve watched all of the movies on our vegan documentaries list then this name should come as no surprise.

Starring in the award winning film Earthlings and Unity, Joaquin is not afraid to share his vegan views with the world. In fact, he uses his power and influence to convince other people to go vegan. What a guy!

In an interview with Cover Media, Joaquin recalled the story of how he and his siblings became vegan.

I was three. There were five kids and we literally screamed at our parents and said, “We are never going to eat meat again.” Because we were on a boat, and they were catching fish, and they were throwing fish against the side of the boat in order to kill them, they are flopping around, so these kids, there were five of us, no there were four of us, one of them was pregnant with my younger sister, and it was undeniable that it was brutal, barbaric and horrible for us, and so we said that. I remember my mum not being to answer and we said, ‘Why didn’t you tell us that’s where meat came from?’ And she didn’t know what to say. I feel like I have this memory of seeing her crying.

This Oscar winning actor is primarily known for his roles in Manchester By the Sea and The Assassination of Jesse James. However, something you probably didn’t know about Casey is that he is a die hard vegan.

He’s so committed to veganism that Casey has used his fame and influence to convince people not to eat meat. Here it from Casey himself.

The speech you saw above was an collaboration with PETA which was meant to be aired on TV stations all over the US. However, many networks banned the advert saying it was too gruesome and gory. They had to make a new version of the advert just to get it aired on TV. Despite the setback, Casey has continued to promote veganism and does everything in his power to get the message out.

Now if only he could convince his older brother to become vegan…

Woody Harrelson

One of Hollywood’s nicest actors, Woody Harrelson has starred in A LOT of moves. From the Hunger Games to Zombieland to No Country for Old Men, Woody is most certainly a Hollywood heavyweight.

Woody might be a tough guy on the screen, but he’s also a tough guy standing up for animals off the screen. A long time vegan, Woody has teamed up with PETA on various projects to help spread the message of veganism. Whilst working with PETA he managed to secure the release of 14 research chimpanzees and has funded various other vegan projects. As you can see, Woody is not afraid to put his money where his mouth is.

In an interview with the Metro, Woody explained how and why he became vegan.

I used to eat burgers and steak but I would just feel knocked out afterward; I had to give them up. Dairy was first, though. I was on a bus when I was about 24 and this girl saw me blow my nose – and I had acne all over my face. She told me I was obviously lactose intolerant and that if I gave up dairy my symptoms would disappear in a matter of days. She was right.

Alec Baldwin

Having starred in countless films over his lengthy Hollywood career, Baldwin has stuck to a vegetarian diet for decades before recently becoming vegan.

In 2011, Baldwin was diagnosed as being pre-diabetic and had to make changes to his diet. This involved ditching the milk, eggs and yoghurt and sticking to plant based foods. After switching to his new diet, Baldwin lost over 30 lbs and reversed his pre-diabetic symptoms. This just goes to show how healthy a plant based diet is.

He also narrated PETA’s Meet Your Meat video back in 2002.

One of Baldwin’s most famous quotes is the story of how he became vegan.

I quit eating beef when I was somewhere between 10 and 13 because we do have cows and I did bottle feed them and stuff like that. They were like my pets. I had an incident one day that made me refuse to eat beef ever, ever again. Later on, my neighbor had pigs, and I thought they were cute, and it just kind of went on and on from there. I phased it out over a period of time. My parents were actually banding calves. Basically, it was to make them grow bigger so people could eat them, and they were so cute, and it just made me sad.
